Stretford Paddock

While in third year I've had the opportunity to have work experience for Stretford Paddock, a production team that reports on Manchester United. They're a small team who've given me the chance to work in various media departments, which I went into more detail in below

At Stretford Paddock they had me editing within my first hour of being there, this was a great opportunity to be thrown in the deep end. I have always been somewhat competent at editing however this placement has improved my skills drastically. I have now picked up premier pro techniques that I previously didn't have such as colour grading and adding graphics to videos but most importantly I am now a much quicker editor than before so I can get videos out to a tight schedule.

After seeing the producer set up the cameras and mix the different shots in the video I got to give it a go. I am fairly confident with cameras and mixing videos isn't a complicated task however being involved in the process for a company that are paying peoples wages puts more pressure on you. I have now mixed a few videos and have not struggled with the process. I will also have the notes on the screen for the presenters and note down timestamps in the videos so it has helped me learn to multitask.

Additional skills

While at Paddock there's been other skills that I have used. Before producing some content such as the Paddock podcast I will have to help the presenters out by making them a set of notes and stats on what they want to talk about so that they are prepared. I have also used a lot of research skills on stories, for example finding quotes from footballers and translating them into English. Furthermore, I have been involved in creating thumbnails for the channel, making a design that will be engaging for the audience so adding complications to images and changing the contrast on darkened images are skills that I have picked up. I've also clipped up some content into short form content like instagram reels and turned the videos into audio only podcasts. This gives me the vision to understand how to get multiple pieces of content out of one video.
